Fire temple is a Zoroastrian place of worship. The temple of fire (Atashkad) is a place of worship for the followers of Zoroastrianism, the ancient religion of Iran (Persia). In the Zoroastrian religion, fire together with pure water are means of ritual purity. Pure white ash for purification ceremonies is the basis of ritual life. The oldest remains of what has been identified as a fire temple are on Mount Haje, near Hamun Lake in Sistan. Only traces of the foundation and the plan of the area have been preserved, which are tentatively dated to the 3rd or 4th century BC. The temple was rebuilt during the Parthian era (250 BC – 226 AD) and expanded during Sassanid times (226-650 AD).
