In Tantric Buddhism or Vajrayana, Mandarava is revered as a female guru-deity. In an extraordinary omen, Mandarava was born to a royal couple in Zahor, Northern India. Her mother was an incarnation of the female Buddha Pandaravasini, the consort of Amitabha, and her father was an incarnation of the Buddha's father, Suddhodana. Mandarava is regarded as wisdom, knowledge, or awareness Dakini.
