Shirdal is the name of the griffon in the ancient Iranian tradition, which means 'Lion-Eagle'. Shirdal appeared in the ancient art of Iran from the end of the 2nd millennium BC. Shirdals appeared on cylinder seals from Susa as early as 3000 BC. e. Shirdals are also common motifs in the art of Luristan, the Northwestern region of Iran in the Iron Age of the Achaemenid period of art.
