Snake Persian Symbols Charm

The snake in Persian culture as a symbol has several opposite meanings. The serpent is one of the hypostases of Angro Mainyu in Zoroastrianism. In Persia, the serpent Azi-Dahak is the 'strangler', the enemy of the sun god. With the advent of Islam, the symbolism changed. The snake in Islam is closely associated with life and represents el-hayyah and vital el-hyat, as well as El-Hay – one of the most important names of God, meaning 'revival', or that which gives a vital beginning. So the snake is that which at the same time animates and supports, endows with life, is the very principle of life. Therefore, on traditional Persian carpets, the snake symbol is most often associated with wisdom and guardian.
