Enki Ea is the mischievous god of wisdom, magic, and invocations who resides in the ocean under the earth. Enki was formerly revered as a god of freshwater and the protector of the city of Eridu. Another Akkadian/Babylonian story, the Atrahasis, which is the Mesopotamian account of the Great Flood, also prominently features Enki. According to this myth, Enki was in charge of creating humans so that they can serve the gods. When Enlil uses a massive flood to finally wipe off humankind, Enki decides to travel to Earth to save Atrahasis, a virtuous man. The man is instructed to construct an ark and thereby avoids Enlil's vengeance.
