Nunavut's Coat of Arms Inuit Symbols Adjustable Open Ring

Nunavut's Coat of Arms Inuit Symbols Adjustable Open Ring

Romeo LeBlanc, the Governor General of Canada, issued a warrant on March 31, 1999, approving the creation of the coat of arms for the territory of Nunavut. The shield's colors of blue and gold represent the wealth of the nation. The North Star, or Niqirtsuituk, and the Midnight Sun are shown in the head. Below that is an inukshuk, a stone monument that serves as a landmark and a representation of the region, and a qulliq, a stone lamp that symbolizes the coziness of home and community. The igloo (iglu) on the crest stands for traditional life, survival, and the legislative assembly of the Nunavut government. It is inscribed with a crown to signify regal authority. Caribou and narwhal, the supporters, stand for food and the earth's natural riches on land and in the sea, respectively. They are positioned next to an iceberg in the ocean in a compartment that is home to Arctic poppies, dwarf fireweed, and Arctic heather. Nunavut Sannginivut is the motto, written in Inuktitut syllabic script (Our Land, Our Strength). Given that they were given in English, French, Inuktitut, and Inuinnaqtun, the letters patent are highly distinctive.
