Boteh Jegheh (paisley) is a traditional ornament of many peoples of the ancient East. According to one version, this is a floral motif combined with the silhouette of a cypress, a symbol of life in Zoroastrianism.
The origin of this pattern goes back to Persia and the Sassanid Empire.
The pattern consists of a drop with a curved top end, which represents the cypress, a symbol of eternity and life, which is also Zoroastrian.
This pattern is still very popular in contemporary Persia and can be found on Persian curtains, carpets, clothing, jewelry, paintings and artwork.
