Ishtar was another name for the goddess of love and fertility, Inanna. From 3500 BC to the 5th century BC, she was the dominant goddess. She was first worshiped in Sumer, then in Assur, Akkad, and Babylon, among other towns. In these cities, she was well-known under the name Ishtar. She was linked to warm political power and justice, besides love and fertility. She was also referred to as the Queen of Heaven. For the Akkadians, she was the goddess' and heaven's queen.
