Hotu Matua is the first king of Rapa Nui. Rapa Nui considered Tiki te Hatu to be one of their earthly ancestors. In the creation myth, Tiki is the direct ancestor of the legendary Rapanui leader Hotu Matua, that is, in fact, the first person on earth. Hotu Matua brought his people to Easter Island.
