Enlil Elil was one of the major deities in the Mesopotamian pantheon. The fates were determined by him, and he was the only one who could give kingship. Until the second millennium BCE, Nippur served as the religious capital of Mesopotamia, and this is where his temple, é-Kur, the 'Mountain House,' was situated. Of all the temples in southern Mesopotamia, this was the most significant. He was the son of the sky god Anu, and along with Anu and Enki, he was a member of the triad that oversaw the heavens, earth, and underworld, or the universe, sky, atmosphere, and earth. Enlil was the most potent deity of Mesopotamia after Anu. He was the custodian of the Tablets of Destiny, which contained the destiny of the gods and humans.
