The sculpture from ancient Mesopotamia described as the Ram in the thicket is a 'goat in a tree.' Impressive detail is used to depict the goat reaching up to eat leaves from top branches, which is a familiar scene along the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The sculpture's surface was embellished with hammered sheet gold, and it was constructed of wood. The goat's fleece was then meticulously sculpted from shell and lapis lazuli, and the expressive face was emphasized with lapis eyes, a beard, and horns.
