In Sami mythology, Ruohtta is both a deity and a representation of disease and death. He travels on a horse and oversees Rotaimo, the country of the dead. People that did not follow the normal order of things arrived at Rotaimo, a city located deep beneath. They also get a new body there, but they cannot leave Rotaimo ever again. Since it was the Norsemen's favored mode of transportation, the horse was among the Sami's feared and despised animal.
