Sēnmurw or Saena is a mythical creature in Iranian mythology, the king of all birds. In the Avesta, references to the Simurgh are rather scarce. According to Yashta, Veretragna surrounds the house of his worshiper with hvarnah (grace) in the same way, 'like that great bird Saena, like rain clouds enveloping high mountains.' From this it is concluded that Saena brought rain. In another place it is said that 'the Simurgh sits under a tree in the middle of the ocean of Vourukash, on which all the seeds of the world grow, and with a wave of its wings scatters these seeds, which are carried by rain and wind all over the world'; in later legends, the Tree and the Sēnmurw are identified.
