The Standard of Ur is a Sumerian artifact from the third millennium BC that is currently in the British Museum's collection. It comprises a hollow wooden box with measurements of 21.59 centimeters (8.50 in) by 49.53 centimeters (19.50 in) and is inlaid with a mosaic of lapis lazuli, red limestone, and shell. It originates from Ur, a former city (in modern-day Iraq west of Nasiriyah). It is about 4,600 years old and comes from the First Dynasty of Ur, which was an Early Dynastic era. The standard was presumably made to resemble a hollow wooden box with scenes of conflict and peace depicted on either side by intricately inlaid mosaics.
